Brain and Behavior Animal Lab 2

Meeting location: GC 008 at 3:00

Activities: 1. review runway maze procedure
2. half the students go to Skaggs
3. test each mouse's short-term (15 min) memory on
the runway maze
4. habituate each mouse to the tube test
5. adjurn

Notes:
1. The mice's usual music will play during these tasks.
2. To execute the runway task, 1/2 a FrootLoop will be placed at one end behind a .5" barrier. The mouse is placed in the maze, facing the wall at the opposite end. The time it takes for the mouse to reach the FrootLoop is recorded.
3. To habituate mice to the tube test, small pieces of FrootLoops are placed midway through the tube and just outside the far end. Each mouse completes this training twice within the same lab period but separated in time.

Think about this!
Besides the variables we are manipulating (sweetener & sound) what are other variables than can reasonably affect the performance of mice on the runway task?
Why do we habituate mice to the tube test?
